Wikipedia defines an elevator pitch or elevator speech as “an overview of a product, service, person, group or organization.”

But in my experience, an effective elevator pitch is better expressed as a clear, simple, easy-to-understand explanation of the primary benefits you deliver. You need to be able to convey it to someone in a matter of seconds — roughly the amount of time you might spend traveling with them in an elevator.

What an Elevator Pitch is not:

An elevator pitch is not a boring recitation of products, services or qualifications. In fact, it’s not really about you at all — except to the extent that it explains the primary benefits someone would get from choosing you.
